Bride of Ollichon - Kim
Kim | Dancing Queen
How long have you been together?
Jim and I have known each other a long long time, since we were 11 years old! We became really good friends later in school around age 17 and finally crossed the friendship line at 27. We’ve been together for 5 and a half years now.
Who proposed to who?
We were living in Spain at the time and Jim got down on one knee in a traditional way, he proposed to me under water whist scuba diving, he wrote ‘marry me’ in the sand - not so traditional! I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing at the fact that he proposed without having to actually say the words- my mask kept filling with water!
Where did you get married?
We decided to get married in our home town of Chester. We both work remotely which allows us to live nomadically and travel a lot, (Kim is creative, an artist and brand identity designer at YOUDANdesign and Jim is the founder of The Untamed Entrepreneurs.) but to get married we wanted to be back in the UK. Our friends and family thought we’d get married somewhere exotic but because we travel so much we wanted to spend this time back at home.
What was your inspiration to go dress-less?
I didn’t want a traditional gown or wedding dress but I did want to wear white. I was looking for a fun filled outfit to make a statement when I was on the dance floor, I love to dance! Initially I didn’t think I wanted anything bridal but the two piece was fun and bridal at the same time.
How did you feel in your outfit?
AMAZING! I LOVED my skirt with pockets, it was so much fun - I’m all about the fun.
Sometimes it’s the smallest things that can bring the most fun - the rainbow umbrellas we used in some of our photos weren’t planned. The weather wasn’t looking too good for the day and one of my sister’s surprised us, a practical purchase that looked amazing in some of the wedding photos!
I couldn’t wait to see what all our guests were wearing! Our dress code was bold and bright, the theme was Fiesta in Chester and I was so excited to see what outfits our friends and family wore. We had African patterns, my Aunty came in a peacock theme and Jim’s god mother went all out and wore a full-on fruity flamenco outfit - she won best dressed.
Did anything not go to plan?!
If it did I didn’t notice! Jim and I planned the whole thing and just wanted a big celebration.
We didn’t want to do a first dance, you might be able to tell by now that it wasn’t a very traditional wedding. We asked Jim’s brother Ben to ‘open the dance floor’…we didn’t have a clue what to expect, he did a ‘circle of life’ rendition from The Lion King, it was so random and hilarious, he did a fantastic job of setting the tone for the rest of the night.
What did Jim, your family and friends think about your outfit?
LOVE LOVE LOVE, I got so many comments, friends who were already married who wanted to do it all again to wear something similar!
Will you wear it again?
100% YES! It was always in the back of my mind to wear it again as separates, I can’t wait for the next opportunity.
Hannah at House of Ollichon is a true creative. I couldn’t find anything close to match the quality and style that House of Ollichon provided. I went with my sisters to the initial appointment in London and had such a fabulous time. Hannah was attentive, honest and lots of fun, we had a great experience. The service has also been fantastic, whilst I was living abroad Hannah made every effort to ensure the timing of delivery was suited to me, ensuring I was at ease and happy. I couldn’t have asked for more and would recommend to anyone who wants beautiful unique design and quality service.
