Bride of Ollichon - Kate

Posted by Abby Summerville on

Kate and Akmal have been together for 25 years. With three children aged 22, 19 and 14 they thought it was about time!  Kate couldn't envisage herself walking into a bridal shop and came across House of Ollichon when googling alternative wedding outfits...the result was the Thomas skirt and the McNamara top (named after her!) for her Town Hall wedding!

How did Akmal propose?

In an olive grove in Tuscany last summer!! We had talked about getting married over the years but hadn't found the right time.

Where was the wedding?

The ceremony took place at Berkhamsted town hall which was a lovely venue. We then moved on to the Marchmont Arms in Hemel Hempstead for the reception which is a beautiful old manor house. It was the perfect venue which gave us the relaxed, laid back feeling we wanted. The food was amazing and we were really well looked after. We had some more guests join us in the evening which worked really well.

Why House of Ollichon?

I chose House of Ollichon as I could not have walked into a bridal shop. I came across Hannah just by googling 'alternative wedding outfits' and knew straight away that this was something I could manage!! I loved the Thomas skirt and Le Fay top and went to the Hoxton Hotel to meet with Hannah.

The outfit felt amazing on, it was so comfortable to wear yet elegant! Perfect for me, I loved the pockets especially!!

Best buy (it doesn't have to be your outfit!)

Apart from my House of Ollichon outfit of course, my best buy has to be my dusky pink suede shoes from Cos which I absolutely love and they were so comfortable to wear (a theme with me I'm afraid, it must be my age!!).

Biggest surprise?

How calm I felt, especially throughout the ceremony, the organising was over and we could just enjoy the moment.

Did anything not go to plan?

Everything seemed to go to plan, however it was raining while my lovely bridesmaids and I were getting our hair done which was a bit stressful as we had to get back to the house. It soon stopped raining though and the rest of the day was good weather.

Best moment?

Walking down the aisle with my wonderful mum to Nina Simone, Here Comes the Sun. It was a lovely moment following my bridesmaids and seeing all our family, friends and Akmal of course!!

What did your family and friends think about your outfit?

They loved my outfit, I had so many compliments! I was told how it suited me and how elegant it was. No one expected me to wear a ridiculous outfit and look like a meringue but were unsure what I would choose. They loved the delicate lace and the design of the skirt.

My whole experience with Hannah was amazing, from the first meeting at the Hoxton Hotel to when I needed some last minute alterations, she was fantastic. She listened and understood what I wanted, so she didn't push me to try things that clearly weren't what I was looking for.

When I went back to make my final decision about my outfit I was definitely going for the Thomas skirt which I had wanted from the start but I was unsure about the neckline of the Le Fay top on me and asked if she could do more of a 'V' neckline, Hannah showed me a new design and I was so happy as it was just what I wanted!

Hannah couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating when I needed the last minute changes to my top, her seamstress Mandy is lovely too!!

Hannah later asked if she could name the top the McNamara which I was so flattered by.

I would recommend House of Ollichon to anyone wanting an alternative to what is out there for brides but still wants to feel elegant and stylish, but also feel like themselves (albeit a glamorous version) on their wedding day.

Thanks very much Hannah for giving me a wonderful bridal experience which was something I never expected to be able to enjoy!!
