Bride of Ollichon - Jen

How long have you been together?

14 years in May. Rich and I met online (how cliche!) and after a month of speaking on the phone and the computer, he flew from the UK to meet me in Spain which is where I was studying at the time. Two months later we were living together! We have lived together in Spain, England and now in Wales.

Who proposed to who?

Rich proposed to me in December 2018, in London. It was actually kind of funny and very endearing; I believe he had planned some kind of grand gesture involving Christmas lights, mulled wine and God knows what else, but that particular day it was very busy everywhere we went. We were due to drive back to Wales that evening, and he was running out of time. He ended up proposing when were we both sitting on a bench by Marble Arch. Yes..., he ran out of time! Later on he said to me that at some point he thought he was going to end up proposing somewhere on the M4. I found it very funny, unexpected, sweet and totally us.

Where did you get married?

We got married in London at The Old Marylebone Town Hall, had a pre-reception in Camden with tons of food, and lovely candle lit dinner at Maggie Jones's Restaurant. The whole day has been planned so Hector, our little Whippet could be with us.

What was your inspiration to go dress-less? My dressing style is relaxed and but with very clean lines, because of this, no matter how hard I tried I could not picture myself wearing a meringue-type dress, neither a skin-tight gown. I was also very conscious of being able to re-wear as many pieces as possible, thus having a wedding dress just for one day seemed incredibly wasteful. On top of that we were getting married in winter and our wedding was very low key and relaxed, we had just 12 guests (perfect number!). Because of this, the option of wearing a dress never crossed my mind. I knew from day one it would be a two-piece.

How did you hear about House of Ollichon?

Good ole Google, and then some Instagram stalking.

How did you feel in your outfit?

Comfortable as heck! Also incredibly well-dressed, and may I add; beautiful. My skirt fitted to perfection, I did not have to fuss with anything. I put it on at 10.00 AM and took it off many, many hours after and I was still looking like I did in the morning.

Best buy?

Oh, definitely my Le Fay skirt! Also, not a buy per se, but I suddenly wanted my top embroidered with our wedding date. I contacted the lovely Julia from Ink and Thimble and despite being super busy with orders, managed to embroider my wedding top in only a few days before getting married.

Biggest surprise?

A fantastic and very thoughtful wedding gift my mother and father in law gave us a couple of days before the wedding. I will refrain from saying what it was, but it really took our breath away.

Did anything not go to plan? It's hard to think of anything when you have such a relaxed wedding! I can only think of one thing: my poor brother had to play my entrance music twice, because I, of course, I started crying literally seconds before I was due to walk down the aisle and didn't want to walk with tears on my face (spoiler alert: had to walk with tears or the music would have to be played for the 3rd time!).

Best moment? The whole day, honestly. My family flew from Spain and we had a mini-holiday in London a couple of days before the wedding. The actual wedding day has a very special place in my heart, not only because I married the best man in the world, but also because it was the last time I saw Karen, my beautiful sister awake. Karen has been battling with cancer for over two years, and not long after the wedding she deteriorated very rapidly and unexpectedly. She passed away, surrounded by all of us, exactly one month after I got married. Our wedding was the last time my mom, dad, brother, sister and I were together.

What did everybody think about your outfit? Everyone loved it! Especially when I was wearing trainers. A lot of people told me I looked like the perfect modern winter bride, so yeah, I'll take that!

Will you wear it again? 100% I have not had the chance to wear my Le Fay skirt yet, but I have plans to wear it with soooo many things over the spring and summer. So far I've worn my coat, my top and shoes. I did think about rocking my flower crown to work but I thought it might be a tad too much, haha!

Honestly, I could not be happier with the whole experience. Hannah, and the whole team at House of Ollichon deserve all the success in the world and more. From my first appointment Hannah has been a dream to work with. I was able to try (and double try) everything in her lovely studio, ask her a million questions and receive the best care and attention a bride can hope for. Our appointments were fun, nothing has ever been too much trouble and Hannah has always been able to advise via email and in person. My skirt has been made exactly to my measurements and my preferred length, it fitted perfect and above all, I was very comfortable all day! I looked and felt like a bride, but on my very own way.
