Bride of Ollichon - Claire
How long have you been together?
Matt and I have been together for almost 10 years. We got engaged after 8 years together but it took us a while to get round to the wedding!
Who proposed to who?
Matt proposed while we were on holiday. He had been plotting for months in secret with my bridesmaid Erin who helped him pick the ring. When he proposed it was really special knowing that she knew it was happening and had been in on it all along.
What was your inspiration to go dress-less?
I knew I wouldn't feel comfortable in a big, princess wedding dress. My priorities for my wedding were to mingle, drink and dance all night and so I wanted something cool and relaxed that I could run around in! After I chose my outfit from House of Ollichon, I was so inspired by the skirt and top combination that I decided all my bridesmaids should all wear skirts and tops too! I think the skirt and top theme worked really well!
How did you feel in your outfit?
I felt so relaxed and comfortable in my outfit but at the same time I also felt it was flattering and I looked my best in it, so I felt really confident all day.
My bridesmaid Michelle's parents were going to France and very kindly offered to bring back our wedding champagne for us. We got top quality champagne really cheaply, which saved us an absolute fortune. We were also very lucky that Matt's cousin got married recently and very kindly donated their decorations to us - gorgeous jars for candles, homemade bunting and lights. They were perfect for our day and actually meant more to us than buying them, because they had made one of our favourite couples big day so lovely, and then they made our day so lovely too - it's all about spreading the wedding love along to the next couple!
We asked Matt's sister Steph to do a reading at the ceremony. We asked her to pick something, and to be honest we just expected it would be a typical wedding reading. But we were absolutely blown away when she suddenly started reading out this funny, personal and beautiful poem that she had written for us. It summed up our lives together perfectly and we couldn't believe how much effort she must have put in to make it so special for us. There wasn't a dry eye in the house!
Did anything not go to plan?!
During the ceremony a noisy ice cream van pulled up outside - but that was actually pretty funny! The fish and chip van for the reception was two hours late, which wasn't ideal as all our guests were hungry. But credit to them they just drank more drinks and got merry while they waited!
I loved the ceremony - we had an amazing humanist who made the service really personal and included lots of stories and anecdotes from our friends that had everyone laughing. The reading from Steph absolutely topped it off. We also had an amazing band in the evening so we were on the dancefloor all night.
What did your family and friends and husband think about your outfit?
I think they loved it! Everyone commented on how relaxed and happy I looked. I never imagined Matt would get emotional on the day but when I walked down the aisle he had tears in his eyes when he saw me in my outfit (he'll kill me for saying that!). He had no idea I would be wearing a skirt and a top but he loved it and said it was very me.
Will you wear it again?
I'll definitely wear the top and skirt with other clothes again - that's the beauty of the outfit, white top and skirt will go with anything!
The appointment to try on my outfit was so much more relaxed than other wedding dress experiences. Hannah made it a really special event and gave honest and helpful advice. She was so nice and friendly, I immediately felt comfortable trying everything on. I took two friends along and we sipped champagne whilst I put on various tops and skirts. The outfits are all stunning and perfect for a 'modern bride' who is looking for something a bit different. I really can't recommend House of Ollichon and Hannah enough. I can't imagine having worn anything else now. Thank you!
