Bride of Ollichon - Claire
Claire | WILD!
How long have you been together?
Who proposed to who?
I proposed to Chris in April 2016 (a leap year!) at the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge
Where did you get married?
BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead
What was your inspiration to go dress-less?
I could never see myself in a traditional wedding dress, and they're not at all my style. I actually really had my heart set on trousers from House of Ollichon, but after trying on lots of pieces I decided on the Thomas skirt and Drakeford top - the two pieces that I hadn't earmarked as favourites! It just goes to show that you need to try everything on before deciding.
How did you feel in your outfit?
I felt absolutely amazing - all of the bridal vibes, but very unique. The skirt in particular is a thing of beauty to wear. And POCKETS!!!
My feather headpiece from Etsy seller Flora & The Fox - made to measure for my haircut and so many good reactions to it.
Everybody's generosity - loads of people gave their time to contribute to the wedding preparations, we couldn't have done it without them. Also, the Registrar was totally up for opening the ceremony with the "mawwiage" speech from The Princess Bride!
Did anything not go to plan?!
Not that I'm aware of...!
The Millennium Bridge tilted to let a boat through during our ceremony, which was just beautiful. Then Chris was interrupted by the boat foghorn mid-vows, which caused absolute hilarity.
What did Chris, family and friends think about your outfit?
They all thought it was very "me", and the reaction to the pockets was tremendous. Chris was expecting something completely different, so it was really nice to surprise him.
Will you wear it again?
I've already worn the skirt again! I wore it to York Racecourse a few weeks after the wedding, paired with a bright camisole top.
My bridesmaids and I travelled from Newcastle to visit House of Ollichon after I was looking for bridal separates / trousers online and discovered their beautiful pieces. All of the pre-appointment correspondence was great. Hannah is such a lovely person, and she made us feel so welcome. I was definitely a challenge, as I probably ended up trying on most of the outfits in the studio! She is good with giving her opinion and there was absolutely no pressure to buy anything on the day (I did, because I found the perfect pieces!). The pieces came absolutely beautifully packaged! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Hannah and House of Ollichon to anyone who doesn't feel like they want the traditional bridal look. The pieces are of fantastic quality, made from beautiful materials. I felt so special and unique, and the best part is that I can wear the pieces again.
