Bride of Ollichon - Emma
How long have you been together?
This time around, 5 years. We dated when we were 15, split up for about 20 years and then got back together again having done all of our growing up in the middle!
Who proposed to who?
Mike proposed to me on my 40th birthday. It turns out he'd be planning it for a while by all accounts!
Where did you get married?
Nettle Hill in Warwickshire - a converted farm.
What was your inspiration to go dress-less?
I am not a great dress wearer at the best of times. The idea of a meringue that someone else needed to help me go to the loo in is totally not up my street. I originally wanted some trousers, but the skirt I chose won me over! It was about being comfortable and being me, Mike wasn't marrying some kind of fairytale princess that I'll never be, he was marrying the girl that wears trainers all the time... just in a slightly more girly outfit than usual!
How did you feel in your outfit?
Soooo comfortable. Which was the most important thing - the last thing I wanted to be thinking about was whether I was going to lose a bit of dress, could I stand up, was it heavy etc. I just loved it from the minute it arrived and felt completely like it reflected the kind of things I wear all the time, but with just the right amount of added glamour that befits a bride!
Other than the HoO outfit (which I am most proud was the only place I looked and was purchased within an hour!) Probably the custom made converse that went with the outfit... they were just the perfect colour to go with the top and skirt and whilst I really want to wear them again, I don't want to ruin them so they are also tucked away safely with the dress! Or maybe the polaroids we used to create a physical 'instagram' wall... they were priceless in terms of the images of everyone we captured.
Not crying!!! I thought it would be really super emotional and I wouldn't be able to keep it together - but the emotion was happiness so it was just so nice to be super smiley all day!
Did anything not go to plan?!
By some kind of miracle, it was all perfect. Everything was spot on... or if it wasn't we didn't notice!
All of it. Every single minute was totally ace.
What did you family and friends think about your outfit?
They all said it was perfect for me, and just right for the occasion. The best complement came from the groom though - he said that it caught him totally by surprise when I walked down the aisle, he knew it wouldn't be a big dress but he said it was far more bridal than he was expecting and it blew him away a bit. Awww. Bless him.
Will you wear it again?
No - but not because I don't think it would be suitable for thousands of occasions, because I want to keep it to show my children in years to come and I don't want to ruin it. It was such a perfect part of our day, I want it to be there in the little time capsule we've created of our amazing day.
"About to go on maternity leave Hannah assured me that it would be no problem to fit my dress into her schedule to make sure I could receive it on time, which was just so thoughtful. On probably the hottest day of the year, Hannah made me, my mum and my dad (yes, he came along too), totally and utterly welcome. Hannah encouraged me to try on things that I might not have thought of, and we found the perfect combination. It was exactly what I was looking for, made me feel absolutely special without having to be overly bridal. Hannah – you hold a very special place in our box of memories and if we ever decide to relive the experience, you’ll be the only designer I come to. Thank you for giving a girl who doesn’t do dresses the most perfect outfit she could have wished for."
